Windsor Botanicals Appetite Suppressant
A 60-capsule appetite formula combining garcinia cambogia, glucomannan, white kidney bean and artichoke at $27.99. All four actives are named, which is more than many competitors manage. The problem is the descriptions attached to them: glucomannan is called a fat burner, white kidney bean is described as protein-rich and as reducing ghrelin, and garcinia cambogia is credited with boosting serotonin and diet willpower. None of those is well supported.

How the manufacturer says it works
Windsor Botanicals states the capsules suppress hunger with garcinia cambogia, glucomannan and white kidney bean, that glucomannan acts as a fat burner promoting fullness and reducing bloating, that white kidney bean reduces the hunger hormone ghrelin, and that garcinia cambogia boosts serotonin production, strengthening diet willpower.
What the evidence actually supports
Naming all four actives is better than a proprietary blend, and glucomannan itself has the most credible evidence in the formula: it is a highly viscous soluble fibre that expands with water, and there is reasonable support for it increasing fullness. Artichoke is a source of inulin, a fermentable prebiotic fibre. The formula is keto-friendly and low carbohydrate, as stated.
Where that evidence stops
Several of the descriptions are not accurate. Glucomannan is a bulking fibre, not a fat burner — it works by taking up space and slowing gastric emptying, and it does not burn anything. White kidney bean extract inhibits alpha-amylase to reduce starch digestion; reducing ghrelin is not its established mechanism, and it is a starch blocker rather than a protein source. Garcinia cambogia is the weakest link: its human weight loss evidence is poor, the serotonin claim is largely extrapolated from animal work, and it has been associated with rare but documented cases of liver injury, with case reports serious enough to have prompted regulatory attention. No amounts are published for any ingredient, so none of the doses can be assessed. Glucomannan also carries a specific choking risk if taken without enough water, which is not mentioned. None of this is a GLP-1 mechanism.
Strengths and problems
Strengths
- All four actives are named rather than hidden in a proprietary blend
- Glucomannan has reasonable evidence for fullness
- Vegetarian, low carb and keto-friendly status published
Problems
- Describes glucomannan as a fat burner, which is not what a bulking fibre does
- Attributes ghrelin reduction and protein content to white kidney bean, neither established
- Contains garcinia cambogia, which has poor efficacy evidence and documented rare liver injury reports
- No amounts published for any ingredient
- No warning about glucomannan's choking risk if taken with insufficient water

May suit
Hard to recommend over a single-ingredient glucomannan product, which delivers the one ingredient here with decent evidence and without the garcinia.
Do not use if
- You have any liver condition or take hepatotoxic medication — garcinia cambogia is the concern
- You have difficulty swallowing or a history of oesophageal narrowing — glucomannan can swell and obstruct
- You take glucose-lowering medication
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
Frequently asked
Is garcinia cambogia safe?
It has a poorer safety record than most things in this category. Its weight loss evidence is weak — the largest controlled trial found no significant difference from placebo — and there are documented case reports of liver injury associated with garcinia-containing products, some serious. That does not make every product containing it dangerous, but it does mean the risk-to-benefit balance is unfavourable when the benefit is this thin. If you have any liver concern, avoid it.
How should glucomannan be taken safely?
With plenty of water, and never immediately before lying down. Glucomannan absorbs many times its weight in liquid and expands — that is how it produces fullness — and taken with too little water it can swell in the throat or oesophagus. Regulators have issued warnings about this specifically. It is a real precaution rather than a theoretical one, and it is not mentioned on this page.
